Ten top ways to manage anxiety- an article written by renowned Miami Beach therapist and hypnotherapist, Roberta Shapiro.
In my years in practice as a specialist in anxiety, I have found TEN tools that are almost magical in their ability to help manage, decrease, and eliminate anxiety. I hope each week to cover one of them; I really hope you will practice each and every one of them and watch your anxiety fade!
The first is meditation. Many years ago, a master therapist told me that he observed the most anxious patient he had ever seen become calm with meditation. No tranquilizers, no drugs, just meditation.
This piqued my interest, and in my quest to understand meditation I saw just how incredibly powerful it is.
Most people say to me, oh, I’m no good at meditation. But this is like walking into the gym and saying I’m no good at lifting weights. Well, if you just sit on the bench and don’t lift a finger, of course you wont be! But if you get involved, if you commit yourself to understanding the process, you will be amazed to see how quickly the impossible becomes possible!
Meditation is not complicated. It really isn’t. Although many people teach many types of meditation, the TRUTH is all meditation is one thing- focus, focus, focus. Whether it be on your breath, on a calming thought, or on music, or mindful mediation, it’s all about focus.
As you train the mind to focus on something and to send away all other thought, gradually the ability to send away thoughts becomes easier and easier, even though it might have seemed impossible at first!
And when you learn to send away thoughts, you have this amazing tool to manage anxiety, since all anxiety comes from your thoughts.
This is why, on my CD GOODBYE WORRIES, three of the four segments are devoted to meditation. Perhaps in the beginning it would help you to have a CD to follow, whether Goodbye Worries, or the many other excellent CD’s available.
Actually, meditation is so important that I think I will devote next week’s blog to it as well! Let’s continue with understanding mindful meditation.
So, to be continued…..with lots more explanation and tips on meditation.
Dear Mrs. Roberta-
I want to thank you for the suggestion of Omega 3s. I have significantly noticed the reduction in my anxiety and depression symptoms. Thank you!
Thank you very much for the positive feedback.
Dear Roberta-
I wanted to thank you for the very informative eBook which you’ve generously made available to the public for free! I’m writing as a testament that since I have followed your advice with respect to taking Omega 3s, my depression symptoms seem to have really leveled off. While I was waiting to have the Omega’s take effect, I was listening to your Goodbye, Worry cd; it is most helpful, calming and soothing.
Thank you for such quality work and for making help I so needed so affordable at a time where the economy has taken such a hit.
Grateful in many ways,
Gigi
